The Gold Rush

Mineral migration. California, 1848.

RESEARCH NOTES

The mass migration to California after gold was found at Sutter's Mill in January 1848, which brought some 300,000 people to the territory by 1855. Many of the most reliable fortunes were made by merchants selling supplies to the miners.
