Psychrolutes marcidus. Deep-water specimen, poorly represented at surface pressure.

RESEARCH NOTES

A gelatinous fish native to depths of roughly 600 to 1,200 meters, whose most reproduced photograph records it after decompression rather than in habitat. It was adopted as a conservation mascot by public vote in 2013.
