RESEARCH NOTES

A hip-hop subgenre built from the chopped samples and lo-fi textures of 1990s Memphis rap tapes, revived online in the 2010s and, as drift phonk, set to a great many car and gym edits on TikTok. The cowbell carries most of the melody.
